Enlightenment E17 User Guide
Quelitu Jazz Guide -- Quelitu 20.04*

Quelitu no longer comes pre-loaded with E17 Enlightenment, but the latter can still be installed from the regular repositories. As such, this guide will remain useful but is no longer updated.

Quelitu--Screenshots -- Videos & Tutorials

Quelitu Jazz is a desktop environment based on Enlightenment (E17). It features animations, desktop gadgets, and loads of configurations options. It is exciting AND lightweight (uses less RAM than Lxde).

However, it can be confusing as some configuration apps and Qx functions apply only to the LXDE desktop environment (see Lxde Compatibility below) and Jazz has two file managers: EFM and PCManFM (see below).

E17 Configurations Files: ~/.e

TIPS FOR OLD COMPUTERS
To maximize your computer's speed, do not enable Compositing as it uses more RAM memory. Keep the number of items on your desktop to a minimum. Do not enable too many extra modules and gadgets.

ERRORS
Note: Many actions generating errors are still performed successfully.

WINDOWS TOO BIG--CANNOT RESIZE
Windows sometimes open too big to resize: Use ALT-Drag (press and hold the ALT key, then click anywhere inside the window and drag) to move the window and resize it from the corners.

SHELVES
Shelves are desktop panels or toolbars to which gadgets can be added.

FILE MANAGERS: EFM (E17) & PCMANFM
Quelitu Jazz has two file managers:

EFM (Accessed via Menu>Files): Still buggy and in development. It cannot mount other partitions. Use PCManFM instead.

EFM manages the E17 Jazz desktop. Certain files in EFM or on desktop, will prompt you for a program (i.e. default file association). Just choose one from Suggested Applications. Links in EFM and on desktop do not have an arrow to differentiate them from the actual file. If unsure, look at their properties or open ~/Desktop in PCManFM.

PCManFM (Menu>Applications>File Manager or Folder icon in desktop toolbar)

PCManFM manages file associations for Qx Hub. If the latter fails to open a file, try resetting its default application (see Bugs>Troubleshooting>File Associations).

CLICKS ON DESKTOP & WINDOWS
Desktop: Left-click anywhere = Main Menu
Desktop: Middle-click anywhere = Lists opened windows
Desktop: Right-click anywhere = Favorite Application's Menu
Window: Middle-click on Title Bar = Shade/Unshade window

MODULES & GADGETS
Modules are components often containing gadgets. The module must be loaded before being able to use its gadgets.

iBar = Application launcher bar
To add icons/launchers: Drag them in from the main menu.
To remove icons/launchers: Drag icons off the iBar.
Bug: Editing iBars using Right-Click>Contents does not work properly.

Additional iBars: Must have their own Source, otherwise they will have the same contents as the main (default) iBar.

After creating a new iBar:
Right-Click iBar>iBar>Settings>Add (add a new source)>Apply

Module & Gadget Bug: Sometimes gadgets keep coming back even after deleting them. Unload the module for the gadget (Settings>Extensions>Module), reboot, and reload module.

CREATING PROGRAM OR FILE SHORTCUTS
IBar: Drag an application from the main menu to the main iBar.

Favorite Applications' Menu (Accessed by right-clicking anywhere on desktop)
To Add: Right-Click Apps' Titlebar>App_Name>Add To Favorites Menu
To Remove: Settings Panel>Apps>Favorite Applications

Desktop Shortcuts: Open the File Manager (PCManFM)>Click Applications (left panel)>Right-Click an application's shortcut>Copy. Then, paste it (Right-Click>Paste) into your ~/Desktop folder. Note: Dragging directly from Applications to ~/Desktop does not currently work.

WINDOW RESIZE & POSITIONS
Window positions and sizes can be remembered in E17:
Right-Click Program Titlebar>Window>Remember>Size and Position.

STARTUP APPLICATIONS & SERVICES (AUTOSTART)
To start an application or service automatically when your computer boots:
Settings>Apps>Startup Applications. Applications are under the second tab.

WALLPAPER, THEMES, FONTS, & ICONS
Wallpaper: If the wallpaper is distorted or not in your language (English, French, or Spanish), change it.
Menu>Settings Panel>Look>Wallpaper>Personal or System
Random Wallpaper: Menu>Settings Panel>Look>Wallpaper>PERSONAL

E17 Theme: Settings Panel>Look>Theme
Many E17 themes are available on the web. Most are heavier (4 to 8 MB) than Quelitu Jazz (0.25 MB) and will slow down your system.

Be careful: Some themes can result in repeated errors jamming your system. If this happens, click Error 2 message to logout, log back in to a Quelitu Lxde session and delete theme from ~/.e/e/themes. Note, '.e' is a hidden folder. Press CTRL-h to make visible.

If you do not get the Error 2 message and cannot logout. Shutdown your computer manually and restart with the installation CD. Delete the offending theme as per instructions above.

Be careful: E18 and E19 themes are not compatible with Quelitu's current Enlightenment version (E17).

Applications: Theme, Icons, Color
Theme: Menu>Settings Panel>Look>Application Theme
Icons: Menu>Settings Panel>Look>Application Theme>Icons
Colors: Menu>System>Qx Configuration Center>Options...>Colors

Icons & Icon Themes Missing: Caused by corrupt cache. Solution:
a) Delete ~/.cache/efreet (Use CTRL-h to view hidden folders like .cache).
Alternatively, use Qx Maintenance and remove entire cache.
b) Reselect Icon Theme: Menu>Settings>Settings Panel>Applications Theme>Icons
c) Restart Enlightenment: Menu>Enlightenment>Restart.

Fonts (Settings Panel>Look>Fonts>Advanced Button)
Title Bar: Title Bar>Check Enable Font Class>Select Font...
Menu Item: Menu Item>Check Enable Font Class>Select Font...
Menu Title: Menu Title>Check Enable Font Class>Select Font...
Frame Box Title: Frame>Check Enable Font Class>Select Font...
Buttons: Buttons>Check Enable Font Class>Select Font...
Radio Buttons: Radio Buttons>Enable Font Class>Select Font...
Check Buttons: Check Buttons>Enable Font Class>Select Font...
Lists (item in lists): List Item>Enable Font Class>Select Font...
Desktop: Desktop Icon>Check Enable Font Class>Select Font...

MENUS
Some menu sections (e.g. Preferences) may not display. This is usually caused by icon incompatibility. Reset icon theme to Quelitu (Menu>Settings>Settings Panel>Application Theme>Icons).

KEYBOARD SHORTCUTS
Start applications with one or a combination of keys:
Menu>Settings Panel>Input>Key Bindings: Add>Press Desired Key Combination>Select Action>Apply
Examples of Actions:
To start Leafpad: Command (in Right Panel) leafpad (in Action Params)
To start Qx Hub: Command (in Right Panel) /usr/bin/Qx/qx-hub.py (in Action Params)
